Miki (the rehabilitation acronym) is a Mississippi Kite. Miki came to us from Los Angeles earlier this year where he was initially dropped at a shelter with an old leg fracture. He was then taken in by a CDFW game warden who realized that Miki is also an imprint. Miki is our 6th education ambassador that is an imprinted bird. For more information on imprinting and how to prevent it see our FAQ page.

Fun Facts:

Mississippi Kites primarily eat insects and small rodents. They fly and catch insects in the air or "on the wing." As juveniles, Mississippi Kites have brown chests and dark heads but when they mature they have primarly light grey heads and under bodies with dark slate grey wings.
